Empowered women Empower the world

Dear Friend,

Greetings from El Shaddai Charitable Trust. We bring to you our report on “Help Empower Girls and Women”.

Gender equality and women's empowerment are fundamental to ending extreme poverty and promoting resilient, democratic societies. Empowering girls and women will help to: Improve women's well-being, help women manage risks, make strategic life choices, stand up against discrimination and violence, help women make decisions about their health care.

With social responsibility being an integral part of our mission, and our commitment to transforming lives, we at El Shaddai extend our support and positively impact the societies to create gender balanced learning and skilling opportunities for the future.

The empowerment programs for girls and women includes teaching computers, literacy, and life skills like tailoring, bag making, mehandi, crochet, knitting and beautician courses. By providing access to education and training programs it will help women and girls develop new skills, knowledge and competencies. We have many homemakers who were trained in various skills/trade and have opened their own avenues to generate income. Every month we have a total of 94 women enrolling in our empowerment programs through our community centres.

The El Shaddai women empowerment programs are creating opportunities for women and girls to participate in the economy as entrepreneurs, business owners, or wage earners.

We have a story of a brave woman named Rashmi(name changed). She was married at a very young age and very soon was caught up with the responsibilities of the house and motherhood. She always dreamt of being independent and to learn things. She was especially fond of stitching and as a child often made tiny dresses for her dolls. One day she came across our community centre named Ashraya where she got enrolled in the tailoring programme. With that there was no turning back. She attended all her classes and completed her course in tailoring. She is now taking order for stitching clothes and operating from her house itself where she can now fulfil all her dreams. Her story reminds us that by being empowered, we can change lives and pave the way for a brighter future.

We aim in creating a supportive environment where women and girls can access resources, networks and social support systems that will help them achieve their goals. We can help all such girls and women to be empowered only with the help and support of sponsors, donors, well-wishers and friends. We are eternally grateful for all the love you have shown to us and for aiding us in the mission of transforming lives.

Empowering HER: Igniting Change Together"

Dear Donor,

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and, therefore, half of its potential. However, gender inequality persists everywhere and stagnates social progress.

On average, women in the labour market still earn 23 percent less than men globally and women spend about three times as many hours in unpaid domestic and care work as men. To bring about a change in the world, it’s important to be the change. At El Shaddai, we aim to put an end to Gender inequality and help and support girls and women to be empowered and feel empowered. Every year 235 women have been supported through our women empowerment programs.

Through our community centers, we provide many opportunities to women who want to learn and be independent. We teach tailoring, Mehendi, Crochet, computers and beauty courses. Through These programs, women are becoming financially self-sufficient, which not only benefits individual families but also strengthens local economies. We have a beautiful story of a young woman named Kajal (name changed). She lived in the slums of South Goa. Her father is a labourer and struggles each day to support her and other family members. It was very heartbreaking for her to see each day her father trying his best to provide for his family.

Her life changed when our outreach workers introduced her to our empowerment programs. Driven by a desire to learn, she joined our Mehendi classes where she completed a three-month course mastering various Mehendi patterns, including Arabic, simple, and intricate bridal designs, soon she became an expert in taking orders for bridal mehendi and providing financial support for her family including her younger brother’s education.

At El Shaddai, we accept that empowering women is not merely a women's issue but a crucial step toward creating a more equitable and just world for everyone. Empowering Girls and Women to Thrive

Dear Friend,

Women empowerment in India is a powerful catalyst for development. In today's world, women are actively taking on leadership roles and excelling in various spheres of life. However, women still face discrimination and inequality in several areas, such as education, economic opportunities, healthcare access, and political participation, despite efforts to promote women's empowerment at the state, local, and national levels. It is important to address these disparities and bridge the gap between policy and practice to ensure effective women empowerment in India.

Women should have access to comprehensive healthcare services, including reproductive health and maternal care. Addressing gender disparities in healthcare and providing adequate medical assistance can improve women's well-being and empower them to lead healthy lives.

El Shaddai focuses on empowering women through various skill-building programs. Women are provided with opportunities to learn skills such as tailoring, beauty salon management, and other valuable skills. These enable women to set up their own micro-entrepreneurship ventures, allowing them to become financially independent and contribute to their families' well-being.

Sheetal (name changed) was found by our outreach workers on one of their slum visits. She faced financial difficulties while trying to take care of her family. She was counselled by our team members who encouraged her to join our tailoring course. Now, she has been attending the classes and is focusing of developing this skill so that she can support herself, independently.

By empowering women with practical skills and knowledge, we not only enhance their economic prospects but also boost their self-confidence and self-reliance. You can help us make a difference in someone’s life today, for which we will always be grateful. We hope to significantly impact women's lives, dismantle the obstacles of poverty, and offer them possibilities for a better future through our empowerment approach.
