Patient Relief Mission (PRM) – Project Update Report

About Patient Relief Mission (PRM)

Patient Relief Mission (PRM) exists to improve cancer care and management for female patients and their caregivers by providing safe hostel accommodation, transport to and from Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) for treatment, and three meals a day.

Our services are specifically designed for patients who travel from rural areas to Kampala for treatment and would otherwise have no safe or affordable place to stay. PRM was founded with the objective of reducing needless suffering among cancer patients seeking care in Kampala, Uganda.

Infrastructure and Facility Improvements

As part of our operational strengthening and preparedness to receive patients, we have undertaken significant improvements to the facility:

1. Administration Office

We have renovated and improved the office space where the administration of the hostel will be conducted. This office will serve as the coordination center for:

Patient registration and records management

Scheduling of transport to and from UCI

General hostel administration

Coordination with caregivers and partners

This improvement enhances operational efficiency, accountability, and service delivery.

2. Store and Medicine Room

We have improved and secured the store and designated medicine room where medication for cancer patients will be safely kept. These improvements ensure:

Proper storage conditions

Enhanced inventory management

Controlled access and accountability

Compliance with basic safety and health standards

This strengthens our capacity to support patients’ treatment continuity.

3. Enhanced Security

Additional security cameras have been installed across the facility to:

Improve overall safety of patients and caregivers

Protect medical supplies and equipment

Strengthen monitoring and risk management

This investment ensures a secure and supportive environment for vulnerable patients.

Success Stories and Milestones Achieved

We are pleased to report the following completed works:

1. Installation of Culverts

We have completed the installation of culverts to direct the flow of water and prevent losses caused by landslides. This intervention:

Mitigates soil erosion

Protects the structural integrity of the facility

Enhances long-term sustainability of the infrastructure

2. Improvement of Shades

Shaded areas around the facility have been improved to provide:

Comfortable resting areas for patients and caregivers

 Protection from harsh weather conditions

A more hospitable and healing environment

3. Roofing Completion

We have successfully completed the roofing of:

 The hostel

 The staff quarters

This marks a major milestone in making the facility functional and ready for occupation.

4. Road Network Improvements

The road network around the hostel has been improved through grading and ongoing maintenance. This has:

 Increased accessibility to the facility

Improved transport efficiency for patient transfers

Reduced mobility challenges, especially during rainy seasons

 Next Steps

We are now focused on completing the compound works in the coming months. These final improvements will ensure that the facility is fully prepared to receive patients in a safe, accessible, and dignified environment.

With continued support from our valued partners, we look forward to officially opening our doors and providing comprehensive support to female cancer patients and their caregivers.
