Sara teaching
We are so excited to welcome Sara Appino to the project team. Sara has been teaching at the Mal Pais School since the beginning of the School year. Her students are already showing some amazing results and happy faces!
We have also now introduced Art Classes to Mal Pais school, which have been well received by students, parents and the School Director. All materials and resources for the classes are from donations and the class is staffed by volunteer Celina Otero-Monsegur and Sonya. We've been so inspired by the students Art so far, we're looking forward to hosting a fundraiser Art Show in the near future and also entering the National Art festival, which is coming up soon. New research has shown that Art plays an equally important role in education, so we're excited with this new change in the students curriculum. I think you'll agreed the Mal Pais students are a talented bunch. Please enjoy the photo's.

Playground at the Mal Pais public school
By Sonya Danchik | Project Manager

Mal Pais Playground
The playground is now in place at Mal Pais Public School, this marks the first playground in the area. So as you can imagine it's been full of happy faces since it's placement at the beginning of November. The community and Mal Pais Public School, gives a big Thanks to Barbara and Jon for all their efforts and for sponsoring the event. Also a special thanks to the local Super chefs - Spencer and Billy of Flora Blanca Hotel, Jim from Soma and Jon of Brisas Del Mar.
This fun event brought the community together and the result of the playground now in place at the school, has not only provided a place for the local children to play, but also facilitates a space where the community can come together and parents can support each other.
We still have much more fundraising ahead of us - a new standard classroom will cost $25,000, but each fundraiser will bring us closer to our goal and closer together as a community.

The Super Chefs!
Recently the community held a fundraiser at local restaurant Brisas del Mar aimed specifically to build a playground located within the grounds of the Mal Pais Public School. Well, needless to say, the event was a smashing success. Thanks to the generosity of our local community, not to mention the hard work of our volunteer Super Chefs, Jon, Spencer, Jim and Billy, we raised just enough money to have the playground ready for the children to enjoy at the beginning of November 2010. The show of support for this event was fabulous, and shows much promise for future events and future local fundraising!
