Project Report | Mar 6, 2020
Opportunities for Young Women

By Katherine Ippolito | Program Manager

Dear Supporters

This quarter was a bit slower for the Scholarship fund, as most students were already enrolled in school in the last quarter. However, we were able to use some of the funds to help support 2 female students studying in China.  These students were awarded a partial scholarship, but unfortunately the funds did not cover all of their living expenses. So, the GVI Trust has been helping to support these young women achieve their educational goals, by helping them get access to basic needs support, while studying in China. In this way the GVI Trust was able to contribute directly to UNSDG#4, Quality Education indicator: increased number of scholarships and sponsorships, and UNSDG#5, Gender Equality, by increasing access to educational opportunities for two young women in Laos. (On a side note, the girls, like many Lao students are currently back in Laos and being kept in the country to wait until it is safe to return to China. Many students are being given the opportunity to study online while they are not able to attend classes).

The GVI Trust provided over $200 in basic needs support for two Lao female students to study in China.

Overall, the GVI Trust has greatly contributed directly to UN SDG #4, Quality Education, and it’s indicator: 4.B, increasing the number of scholarships available, through its continued support of increasing access to education for Lao students; and UN SDG #5 by increasing the number of female students who have access to education through scholarships.

A big thank you to our donors, fundraisers and supporters!

With Gratitude,

Laos Scholarships
