Nepal protests - impact on our children's home

By Lucy Boxall | Project Leader

Hello everyone!
A few updates for you on our work in Nepal. Firstly, our transit home in Dhading, set up to help the many children affected by the earthquakes, has gone from strength to strength. We now have 14 children in the home and we have already linked 6 with their families or more permanent homes in the last week. Safe to say all of our staff have been really busy!
Over in our children's home in Birgunj the boys have grown very much in confidence and size! It is fantastic to see such a family atmosphere, they all look after eachother and make sure their 'brothers' are always included in games and of course, when sweets are shared! Education is still at the heart of our home - on a recent visit to the school it was fantastic to hear that they all scored between 80 and 90% in their exams, a big improvement to last year. Of course there are still lots of games, arts and craft and cricket is on the agenda for every day after school - they cannot get enough of it.
Our buffalo is amazing as well - looking very happy and big and we are getting lots of nutritious milk every day.
The recent border protests in Nepal have created some problems for us - food prices have risen, there is a petrol shortage and essential supplies are scarce and difficult to get due to mobility problems. We are struggling through and the home and all of the children are safe - but we have limited supplies. We are all hoping things settle down soon.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support - we have come so far in the last year, both with our boys and the children's home in Birgunj, but the work we have been able to do to support and help the children and families affected by the earthquake. There are still many, many problems and we are continually taking in more children in desperate need.
Child trafficking is a BIG problem after the earthquake with children who are so vulnerable being preyed on, read about our work here.
Please do share our story and work with your friends and family, the more people we have supporting us, the more children we can help. All of your donations go straight to our homes in Nepal and they are essential for keeping us running, and hopefully expanding to help many more.
More updates coming soon. And, thank you once again :-)
