New arrangements

Night time visit and assistance to street children
Night time visit and assistance to street children

So finally some exciting news - looks like we will be able to start the project soon!

There is still a lot of confusion within the local government as to who is responsible for what and which office needs to give permissions to run new projects. But by now we are used to the bureaucracy here and dealing with it all step by step...

We had a number of new consultations with the authorities and local organisations and on request of the government, our new children's home will be in a different location. In Butwal itself there is another organisation that has started to help street children through a day care centre and linking some of them with their families. So we have decided to cover a different area where there is noone helping street children. Our new home will cover 5 districts in Terai region.

The home will be a 'socialisation centre' - a term used by the Nepalese government to describe a home in between a permanent children's home and a transit home. Children can be housed in a socialisation centre for up to 18 months and the main aim of the project is to link the children with their families. Where this is not possible and the children will need a longer term shelter and care, they will be referred to our Birgunj home.

We cannot wait to start the new project and have already recruited one new staff member who will be assisting with the opening of the home and shortly we will be recruiting more staff, after we finalise the paperwork - and with that we are solely reliant on the authorities.

Thank you so much for all your support so far and we will be keeping you all updated with the progress.
