Hi there
This month in Honduras the focus is on our college kids in San Rafael and what a month it has been for them!
We the school gates opened this year, we had a record 69 students in the secondary school and college, traveling from nine different towns around Copán to come to our school, deemed one of the best schools in the region! Some of the kids travel over an hour to get to the school, that is how dedicated they are to getting a good education.
And it is worth the walk as this month they have been doing their work experience placements for college in businesses and organisations in Copán. The kids absolutely loved it and their temporary bosses were even more impressed, saying they were the hardest bunch of students they had ever worked with. Not only has this given the students an incredible confidence boost but it has also shown the business owners what these small town kids are made of! Some of them have even been offered a job where they did their placement, once they have completed their education of course!
If that wasn't enough excitement for one month, the students were also invited to take part in a traditional folkloric dance at the Maratón de la Merienda Escolar in Copán, showing off their skills in front of other schools and the public.
Finally, we are almost ready for our first crop of coffee from our sustainable plan in Honduras, Plan Café. The college kids (again!) took time out of their very busy schedule to learn about the different methods for Plan Café and to help prepare the land for the first harvest!
All those opportunities have been funded by donations from you and other generous people just like you who really are helping thes children have the best start in life. Thank you.
