Issam..Can a Child Become a Father?

By Abdulrazak Madi | Project Leader

Childhood features fade from Issam’s face, replaced by the marks of an unwavering "pillar of support." Suddenly, Issam found himself facing a reality that demanded he be everything to his family: the protective father, the consoling brother, and the source of endless support—all while he himself lacks the very care and security he strives to give others.

Issam lives a daily struggle that few see. He spends his hours caring for his younger siblings, securing their needs, and encouraging them to persevere, all while wrestling with a deep inner need for support. Issam is the very "shoulder to lean on" who needs a shoulder himself; he is the safety seeker who acts as a refuge. Yet, he chose to prioritize his siblings, crafting for them a world less harsh than the one he faces.

At "Masarat", we recognize that Issam needs support so he can continue to support his family. Therefore, we provided him with:

  • Flexible Education: Allowing him to stay by his siblings' side while ensuring his right to build his own academic future.

  • Psychological Support: To let him know he doesn't have to face life alone, and that his personal ambition is just as important as his family responsibilities.

  • A Peer Community: So Issam can still feel like a student, with the right to dream, ask, and learn.

To our partners on GlobalGiving: Your support for Issam is support for an entire family. You are not only providing him with an education; you are granting him the "strength" to remain standing and easing the heavy burden of responsibility he shouldered at such a young age. Thanks to you, Issam can continue to be an ambitious student. Thank you.
