Save a Horse: Rescue and Rehabilitate Mustangs

December was a month full of events and fundraisers.  First, we hosted a Yoga and Wild Horses clinic, followed by our annual Holiday ride, and, lastly, we had our first Open House at our new location.  All of these events went great and brought in funds to our rescue center that have helped improve our new center. 

On December 8th, we hosted a Yoga with Wild Horses fundraiser together with Melissa Montilla. This was our first event at our new property, and, with nine participants, it was a very successful event. Our horses loved the exercises, and the people did yoga with them.  We are planning on hosting another one in the beginning of this year. 

On December 15th, it was time for our annual Holiday Trail Ride, and, as in the previous years, we had a great turnout!  More than 25 people joined us for a ride, food, and games. We are already looking forward to next year!

To truly announce our relocation, we opened up our center on December 21st for our first Open House at the new location.  Plenty of our loyal supporters came out, and some new people from the area also joined us. We were so proud to show our new center and share all of our future plans for it. 

With the donations from these events, we have been able to build new fences, including a new small pasture for our miniature horses and paddocks to four of our stalls in the barn.  We have plans to build a new tack room, along with a feed and hay room in the barn, as well as building a riding arena on the property. These improvements have only been possible thanks to the kind donations from our sponsors, and we are looking forward to hosting more events in 2020 to show our new and improved center to everyone and to be able to help more horses!

In July 2018, we made the decision to start looking for a new property for WHRC to be able to provide even better care for our animals. On September 20th of 2019, this dream became a reality! We relocated to a beautiful 42 acre ranch in Webster, Florida. This property provides rich pastures with beautiful oak trees and ponds for our horses, plenty of space to run for our dogs, and a big barn with plenty of training opportunities for our volunteers. The new property has magnificent oak trees that provides shade for the horses.

The decision to move was based on several factors, but mainly the constant worry was that the property would flood. During the five years we were at the property in Lake Harney, we flooded several times, and, sadly, the flooding brought in many bugs, which gave our horses skin issues due to itching and our dogs ear infections due to the water. This made us go out and look at what our options were, and, in the very last minute, we found our new property. Moreover, thanks to help from some loyal supporters, we managed to move the whole center within one week.

Within two weeks at the new place, we have already built our pens for our wild horses along with a working round pen and let all of our tame horses out on grass, which they love. With the amount of grass we now have, we will be able to save money, since we do not have to hay as much, and can therefore have some funds for other important things, such as professional training. 

The new barn consists of eight stalls, and we are planning to add a tack room, feed room, and an upstairs visitor center. 

Our future plans for the new center are big, and we are piece by piece setting up our new place. We are wanting to create a big working barn with an education center along with plenty of pasture space and catch pens for our horses. We are planning an open house and barn-to-barn ride in December, which will be the first event at the new place. We cannot wait to show this gorgeous piece of property to all of our supporters!
