A few months filled with education

By Brianne | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

During the summer months in Florida, it can sometimes be hard to have enough time to work with the horses, due to extreme heat. Instead, we have put our focus on educating the next generation by hosting a summer camp, going to summer schools, and talking about horse care.

During the last week of June, we had six kids join our summer camp. We had a great week filled with horse work, riding, fun games, and education about animal care and mustangs. We think educating the next generation is very important as a rescue, to help make sure that they know how to care for animals.

In the spirit of education, we went to a few summer schools during the months of July with our literacy program, Wild Horse Tales. With this program, the kids first receive books to read, and then we bring the horses featured in the books for the kids to meet. We also set up educational stations about feed, tack, hoof care, and grooming of horses for the kids to
learn about horse care. All the kids loved meeting Little Black and Big Red and were very interested to learn how to care for them.

During the following months, we will focus on horse work. We have found a new local trainer who we will work together with to further educate some of our horses. Education is a very important part of the rehabilitation process for the rescues we get in. With a good foundation, it is more likely that the horses will find a suitable adopter and a forever home!

With love,

The WHRC Team
